Meditations on the Color Black

Black is a color of mourning.
Of things lost and things often unseen.
We can take solace in it to heal our grief, to recover from pain.
Darkness is what soothes the eyes of one suffering from a migraine or eyestrain.
The shadows and night bring relief from the hot summer/desert sun.

Unblemished night allows the stars to shine, showing us how wonderful the universe is.

Rich is the black soil from which life bursts forth, reaching towards the sky.

It is the color of the deepest oceans, where fantastic life lives.

It is the sky, earth and sea.

Black is all colors, the absence of color and the colors we cannot see all at the same time. It is the color of void and of chaos. It is everything and nothing at the same time.

It is where we come from and return to with occasional visits in between.
